Saturday- Zach and I ran to Little Falls in the morning to pick up some groceries and we found quite a bit of clearance we took advantage of in the sporting goods section that will come in handy for gifts down the line. At 3pm we attended the wedding of my friend’s son, Brandon. The wedding ceremony was short but sweet (perfect) and afterwards we stopped to visit Mom & Papa before heading to the Old Waterfall for the reception. The mother of the groom had hired Zach to watch her youngest son during the reception and after the meal I sat and chatted for a while with friends Paul & Amy before meeting up with Tyler for a pizza.
Sunday- Quite afternoon. I put a turkey in the oven and invited Dad over for turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn and pudding in phyllo cups. Then we sat and watched the Wild lose in overtime 😦
Monday- Scouts. Spent the entire hour searching the internet for new scarves for our troop. The ones we currently have are discontinued so if we want all our youngsters to look the same we are going to have to look at different options.
Tuesday-Book club tonight this month kind of snuck up on me. I didn’t start the book until Friday night and I had to hustle to get it done. Luckily it was only 290 pages and it was an easy read compared to some we’ve had. The book we read Wench was about slavemasters who take their slave mistresses to a resort for the summer and the bonds the slave women form during their summers at Tawawa house. The book was great, the review excellent and the food fantastic as ever. I brought red beans and rice since rice and beans, being cheap and plentiful were a slave staple. Other dishes we enjoyed: chicken stew (featured in the book), salad, johnny cake with chili for topping, stuffed potatoes (also featured in the book), cinnamon salad, chocolate cake, strawberry shortcake, wine, and grits with butter and syrup. Fun, fun, fun night!
Wednesday- Ash Wednesday. Monica and Gracie came out for supper with us and went to mass as well. Gracie was funny when she proclaimed loudly in church – “I don’t want him to put ashes on my forehead!” But she was a real trooper and calmly accepted it when she saw that everyone else was getting them too.
Thursday-Used the leftover turkey for my crockpot meal of turkey noodle soup. Zach opted to go out for supper with grandpa instead. I hope that wasn’t an intentional slam on my cooking skills!
Friday- Shrimp and Pasta tonight and a disappointing Wild loss for the second day in a row!
