I took the day off on New Year’s Eve hoping all the extra time would make me less stressed and I would be able to celebrate the New Year without a stress headache. Due to a storm that carried with it freezing rain and snow, Jeff’s transport truck which is usually at the dock by 3am did not get to Brainerd until almost 11am putting him WAY behind schedule. Zach and I had went to town earlier to pick up his paycheck and ended up staying until 12:30 to get it from him (it comes on the transport truck.) Finally leaving Walmart at 1:00 in the afternoon we get a call from Tyler that Monica had been taken to the ER due to having a seizure at her cousin’s house. We went to the hospital to sit with Tyler for a while until we heard how she was doing. Upon finding out that she was better we headed for home to finally start getting ready for the party.
Four hours until party time and I was stressing! I had people coming and nothing to serve them! Zach was a real trooper and helped me whip together: glazed chicken wings, barbecue turkey meatballs, smokies wrapped with bacon, bean dip, crab spread, jello cubes, cheese & meat tray, chips and dip, veggie tray and set up the bar.
His friend Eli came over and they snowblowed the driveway so people wouldn’t get stuck coming in. Soon the guests were arriving. Janeen and my friend Lori along with her son Aidan were first. Then came Kris & Mark, Eric and Bethany, Andrew, Austin, Faye and Brady.
We started out with a party game I first played at Bunco night. We laughed at some of the words and gestures that came out of this game. We played some Catchphrase and Buzz Word and sat around chatting. We got the champagne out early to start toasting the New Year. We had some straight and some as Mimosas. After 3 pitchers of margaritas it really didn’t matter to us! It was a great night as usual and I’m glad with the roads the way they were they were all able to make it AND get home safely! Here’s hoping 2011 is a great year! Cheers!
