10.  Take mom out for margaritas.  (Can you say “happy hour”, mom?)

11.  Host a Bunco night

13.  Lose 20 pounds  (yes I know I need to lose 4x that amount but these goals are supposed to be attainable, remember?)

15.  Shoot bow with my hubby  (He really wants me to do this so I will)

16.  Do 1 date night a month with my hubby.  (I’m hearing all the time on Facebook how all my friends have such a good time on their weekly date nights.  I’m so jealous!)          We went out for supper to Poncho & Lefty’s

17.  Read 100 books.  (Last year I read 86 I KNOW I can hit 100 this year)    Book 1/100 finished.  I read If I Stay by Gayle Forman

18.  Do an independent Bible study.  (I love the one I facilitate yearly and I have no more time left in my schedule to join another one so I think an independent study might well be the answer)

19.  Read 1 inspirational book a month.

20.  Pull 1 book a month off my personal bookshelf and place it in my TBR pile.  (I have a lot of books I’ve purchased because I sincerely want to read them, so why do I keep checking out stacks from the library?)

21.  Go through clothes in closet and give to charity.  (I’m not a clothes horse but I have run out of room)

47.  Keep up with the Motivated Mom’s chore list.  (It’s been helping me break down my duties so housework doesn’t seem so overwhelming)

48.  Donate to one new charity this year.  Donated my weekly lunch budget to Feed the Poor.  I fed 420 children and it felt great!

49.  Participate in the March of Dimes Walkathon (I have only missed 1 in the last 21 years!)

52.  Have a Pamper Me day  (I need a day for just me.  Just one.  That’s all I ask!)

I got quite a lot accomplished this week and I’m quite proud of myself!  Let’s hope I can stay this motivated week after week.

Mighty Eagles January Patrol Event

Friday night the boys from our Mighty Eagle patrol came over.  The plan was for an overnighter at my house with an all day fishing event the next day, culminating with a fish fry Saturday evening.

We started out at 7pm with working on the Safety Merit Badge.  We discussed ways we can stay safe at home, while driving and on the internet.  We talked about making fire escape plans and identity theft protection.  The boys still have some homework to do to finish this merit badge up, but they got a good start.

Then it was movie time!  The boys had their choice between Red and Despicable Me.  They chose Red and I fired up the popcorn maker and made 3 huge batches of buttery, salty popcorn.  The movie was action packed and funny and I think they all enjoyed it.  At this point we had to say goodbye to our Patrol Leader Josiah.  He had commitments the next day and was not able to spend the night with us.

After Josiah left we went outside and started the fire.  It took a while to get it going but when they did-they did!  Soon it was so hot it was melting the snow around the pit and snow clumps were falling off the trees above us.  The boys were going to sleep outside in the fishhouse and even thought they weren’t quite ready to go to bed they got their sleeping bags ready and the heater going to get the chill out.

At close to midnight I was blowing up the air mattress for Mark to sleep on the floor in the living room.  There was not enough room for us outside and frankly, we weren’t to keen on sleeping out there anyway!

At 6:20 the next morning I snuck outside to peek in the window at the boys but it was too iced over to see them and I didn’t want to open their door and let the heat out so I went back in the house and Mark and I watched the morning news until 7:30 when I put an egg bake in the oven.  After a hearty breakfast of egg bake, cereal, oranges, oatmeal, hot chocolate and juice, the boys started getting their fishing gear together.

By 11am we were out on the ice.  The wind was blowing pretty good across the lake but we had bundled up pretty good and marked had towed our warming house out to the lake for us to seek shelter in if we needed to.

They fished all afternoon and didn’t come home with much.  The fishing on Crow Wing has been COLD but my dear hubby had thought ahead and froze some fillets he had caught a couple of weeks before so between what he caught and what the boys brought home and the hamburger soup I had put on earlier, we had enough to feed us all.

The boys had fun and I’m venturing a guess that Andrew and Austin were as tired from being outdoors all day as Zach was!  So, one more monthly patrol event out of the way.  I wonder what they will decide to do in February.  Hopefully, it’s something warmer!

Happy 88th Birthday Papa! January 29, 2011

Wednesday evening we drove to town to celebrate Papa’s birthday.  He had already had a full day at the Casino with his three daughters so we figured he would be too pooped to party but he was pretty wound up…and FUNNY!  We laughed so hard at him trying to blow out the candles on his cake.  What a blessing it is to have him with us still.

Saturday-  The Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Tournament was today.  Tyler got up early to get out to the ice in the hopes of winning the pickup truck or one of the 200 other prizes, but with 10,000 other fishermen out on the ice he didn’t get lucky.

Sunday- We bundles up and headed out to Hole in the Day Bay with the rest of the Boy Scouts in -22 wind chills to clean up the lake after the tournament.  Four hours were spent walking up and down the rows of holes and we were pretty cold when we got done, but the nice donation from the Jaycees is well worth it.

Monday- Happy 88th birthday Papa!  I came home from work and Janeen came over for a visit before we headed to early Scouts.  The scouts watched a  movie  as part of their Citizenship in the Community merit badge.

Tuesday- Tonight I went to my Adult Faith Formation meeting and then came home and watched the last period of the Wild game.

Wednesday- Mom, Dad, Candy & Bonnie took Papa to the casino in Walker to celebrate his birthday and then Zach, Jeff and I went in for cake and ice cream.

Thursday- Bible Study tonight was on Acts 20-21.  Great discussion on the importance of knowing the history of the Old Testament.  Zach and I watched the old Disney movie Swiss Family Robinson.

Friday-My Boy Scout patrol came over to spend the night.

Project 52 January 23, 2011

The other night I was rambling around on the internet visiting some blogs I haven’t visited in a while and introducing myself to new blogs I have never seen.  In the process I stumbled on a post titled Project 52.  Interested, I read not only that post but followed the link to one of the hosts of Project 52 find out more about it.

Basically Project 52 is about accomplishing goals.  Everyone sets New Year’s resolutions and everybody breaks those resolutions within the first 3 weeks.  They are usually unrealistic, unattainable and unimaginative. (Lose weight, eat healthy, work out more…see they’re all the same.)  But what about smaller goals?  Almost like a yearly to do list.  One that you can cross off items and actually see progress.  Would that work?  I don’t know but I’m going to try it!

I hit a few blogs and looked at their Project 52 lists.  Some of theirs were kind of intimidating! But I’m taking more of an under the radar approach.  I’m setting small goals this year and depending on how it works maybe I’ll aim higher next year.  And to make myself more accountable (and partly because I’ll need a few cheerleaders!) I’m going to post my Project 52 list here and cross them off after I have achieved them.  Feel free to give me a kick in the behind if you feel I’m slacking at all.  So here it is guys- my Project 52 list:

1.  Try 1 new main dish recipe a month.  (I used to be good at this, but as I get busier I get less creative)

2.  Try 1 new dessert a month.  (My guys are always complaining I don’t bake enough)

3.  Make a crockpot meal once a week (It’s such a timesaver!)

4.  Stick to my weekly grocery budget (I’m trying the new cash envelope system for this)

5.  Add to my savings monthly  -Lately I’ve been subtracting 😦

Wish me luck, I’ll keep you posted!

Highlight Reel January 15th-21st, 2012 January 22, 2011

Saturday- Tyler woke up with a splitting headache today.  (I wonder why?)  He seemed to think the lights were too bright and we were talking too loud!  Monica spent the day with us.  I went in shopping.  I was hoping to score some more coupon deals again today, but things just weren’t clicking in place for me.  I did do well at Family Dollar where I was able to get 10 free Reach toothbrushes, but that was about the extent of it.  I stopped at the library to pick up a book for mom that she had reserved and visited with her and Papa for a while before coming home.  Zach and Jeff took the opportunity to spend the afternoon fishing and Monica & Tyler relaxed on the couch and watched Caddyshack while I read and made scalloped potatoes and ham for supper.

Sunday- Tried a new crockpot breakfast recipe with hashbrowns, ham, cheese and eggs.  It was pretty good but could have been cheesier.  It made quite a bit so I took the leftovers, wrapped them in a flour tortilla to make a breakfast burritos and next Sunday I’ll serve them with nacho cheese sauce.  I still have leftover ham from last week but I’m running out of recipes to use it in!  For supper we celebrated Tyler’s birthday (see previous post.)

Monday-Tyler woke me up at 4am this morning in such pain he could hardly stand it.  His abscessed tooth was making his cheek swell so bad it was pushing against his eye and forcing it closed.  He could hardly see out of it and he was getting a black eye from it!  I got him an eye pack for the swelling, he called in to work and I went over and broke into dad’s house to borrow some Vicodin back.  At 8am Tyler called the dentist and made a 1:30 appointment but they couldn’t do anything until they can get the selling to go down.  Visited mom & Papa today.  Papa was being goofy again  lol. Zach drove to scouts tonight.  With the terribly slippery roads as of late he hasn’t got much practice in, so I thought it was time.  At scouts, the boys got their annual knife safety training and all the new Boy Scouts were able to get their whittling chit card.

Tuesday-Cold weather today, but the sun was warm.  I was able to sit in my car and read without the heater on because the sun was warming the interior.  Tyler was still swollen pretty good today but by the afternoon it had started getting better. With nowhere to be tonight I stayed inside where it was warm and watched the Wild win again!  GO WILD!!

Wednesday-Zach got off early today due to finals so Jeff picked him up at noon.  Another Wild win tonight.  Three for three against those Canadian teams this week!

Thursday-  We had our work Christmas party today.  Our food was catered from Maucieri’s in Crosslake.  Pretty good Italian food, but the dessert ice cream cakes from Coldstone Creamery were the best!  Crazy cold again! I thought about cancelling Bible study tonight but when I heard I might have a special guest there tonight I decided to keep it on schedule.  Alas, our special guest did not make it but he does have us penciled in for February 10th & 17th.

Friday-Visited Papa and Mom for lunch today.  Zach off today after having finals the last 2 days.  I made burgers and fries for supper and we sat down to watch a classic Disney movie Swiss Family Robinson.  I want Zach to experience some of these older movies he has never been exposed to.  Unfortunately, the disc I checked out from the library had so many scratched on it it wouldn’t even load!  We ended up watching End of the Spear instead.

Birthday Celebration January 16, 2011

Tonight we finally got a chance to celebrate Tyler’s birthday.  He still wasn’t feeling the greatest today but this time it wasn’t because of a hangover.  His face started to swell again.  The last time that happened he had an abscessed tooth they ended up having to pull.  He’s on medication to help the swelling go down then he’ll have to see the dentist soon to get it taken care of.

He worked today until 5:30 and then Tyler and Monica went to pick Gracie up from her biological father.  When they got here my Dad was already here and supper was going on the table.  Tyler had requested meatloaf wellington for supper which I served with mashed potatoes and madeira sauce and corn.  After supper we got out the Oreo cake (another request) and opened presents.  From us Tyler got the boresighting kit and from Zach he got a new reel.  Mom got him a furry lined sweatshirt (which he says is soooo comfortable!) and a pair of glomits (gloves that turn into fingerless mittens when you turn the flap back.)

It was a fun relaxing evening.  More so for me then for Jeff since he spent half the night chasing Gracie around the house!  When she’s being a little stinker Jeff will tease her and say “Gracie, go to bed!”  Well, after he picked on her for a while she turned to him and said “Jeff, go to bed!”  Ya gotta love that girl!
